the acronym overdrive, ESCM

Today I add number nine in my top ten albums of all time. The first seven were taking the cream off a very huge crop, the eighth was a real 'discovery' (hehe) and this just screamed out for recognition.

This album I present to you, is ESCM by BT. Clearly for me the best work by Brian Transeau, for all occasions. This Binary Universe is excellent for incredibly long periods of chillaxing, however when you have one hour a week to really, really soak it in - you need some quick fixes in the form of the onslaught of excellent tracks on this album.

So great is this album, that over half of BT's top ten tracks come from it. Amazingness like Remember, Orbitus Teranium, Flaming June, Solar Plexus, Firewater and Nectar make this an album to remember, and more than fits the criteria to make it into my list of kickass albums.

Here is a testimonial from Jelze, a new fan who I recommended this album to;

Jelze says:
escm= exceptional, soothing, cool music
And do I share this sentiment or what?

I never realised how good this album was on a whole until after I had all of BT's albums. Ordinarily, if I get onto an artist, I get all their albums en masse and listen to everything at once. I pick out a good song or several and keep listening to them. It was only recently that I realised how many of those songs that I picked out from BT's library were from ESCM. Naturally this was something special to me.

As of yet, there is no number ten, and I'll only add it when I feel necessary. I think I'll order the top ten list alphabetically, as there is no particular favouritism amongst them. It has been hard enough getting all my preferred albums down to this many. Heh.

Over time, I'll write entries on the other seven which were bundled into one. Might put the list in the sidebar or some other crappy space wasting endeavour. Less is more right about now.

I have a major essay due on Thursday, I'll get back on this horse afterwards. ;D

discovery, says the least

It was only August last year when I wrote about my favourite Seven Kickass Albums, but it is since then that I have come across one which makes a very valid eighth. I have already decided on a ninth which will be revealed in a later entry, and I am still open to what will round out my top 10 albums.

The masterpiece I refer to is "Discovery" by Daft Punk. Long a fan of electronic music, more specifically 'big beat', Those sharing similar tastes such as Jelze and Trenty got me onto Daft Punk.

Daft Punk is like that pizza topping that you have one day and you say to yourself "man, that really ruins an amazing pizza", but you find yourself ordering the same pizza over and over again just for that taste. Daft Punk is like barbecue sauce. This somewhat sums up my sentiment towards Daft Punk initially.

I'd seen videoclips for "Around the World" and "One More Time" in the past, and just wrote them off as monotonous fads. But looking into their music catalogue, more specifically this gem, I've come to love them. Like a saucy pizza with assorted animals on it smothered in barbecue sauce.

What is a plus for this album is that it lends itself as a soundtrack to Interstella 5555, an anime which I am yet to finish watching. It remains true to the flow of the music and tells a story of some funky blue guys. Amazing.

It is amazing how the charts for Daft Punk on last.fm largely follow the progression of this album. The first 4 songs from the album are the top 4 on the charts, and most others chart well. It is largely indicative of how much ass this music kicks.

Many free hours have been spent on the banks of the River Torrens just kicking back listening to Discovery from start to finish. That was until I actually had some work to be completed, and it started raining.

Favourite songs would definitely be "Digital Love" and "Aerodynamic", with "Crescendolls" rounding out the podium.

Taking it's place amongst the eight (no order);

The Offspring - Ixnay on the Hombre
The Prodigy - The Fat of the Land
Propellerheads - decksandrumsandrockandroll
Element Eighty - Self Titled
Rise Against - Siren Song of the Counter Culture
Saliva - Back Into Your System
Placebo - Meds
Daft Punk - Discovery

In hindsight, I should have done an individual account for each album, and built it up slowly. Meh, fuckit. I also apologise for the pizza analogies, they'll just be more commonplace now. You'll have to deal with it.

this is blogger!

Man, I forgot about this something nasty. Over 5 months and not a single post.

Well I jumped on in and changed the design to something even more discreet. It makes me shudder to imagine how imposing and blase this thing used to look like before I started to tone it down. At least the new banner leaves no second guessing.

I don't really know what to write about. I suppose this is high time for a movie rant.

Well in recent weeks I have come to vividly realise that Drive In theatres are not dead, and I went to 2 different ones in the space of a week and saw 300 which was the most rant worthy of the lot. I saw four in total, btw.

Well it took me ages to see this movie, so all the hype and people ruining it for me kind of dampened the whole experience, as well as the fact that all the blokes who were with me had seen it before. (My Pint and Ev's Bimmer full). However, it was made more enjoyable with loads of snacks left over and a 12" sub to keep by eardrums happy. And the fact that I only had Nath to share it with. ;D

Summing up this movie in several sentence fragments; Hard, cylindrical nipples; 1800 abdominal muscles; ambiguously gay giant black man; horny deformed outcast; black people down a well; fat man with one arm; yelling all your words.

I'm not going to pretend that someone who hasn't seen the movie will read this, so I'm just going to say the visuals were stunning, it is the ultimate blokes film (ironically with a large amount of shirtless he-men which make us feel pretty miserly) and that it has spawned very, very many "THIS IS (insert relevant object/person here)!!!" jokes.

Would I watch it again? Aye.
